Keep scrolling to find out the 10 hottest hair trends for the year ahead.
Hair Trends 2021: Ash Hair Isn’t Going Anywhere Soon
Yes, it’s unbelievable that Ash hair is still trending after five long years! And, it’s not showing any signs of stopping this 2021. Two reasons that might attribute to this are:
1. Ash hair is still the go-to hair colour for many influencers and KOLs. This creates a trendy and fashionable perception. Hence, making it highly sought-after among the millennials.
2. Widespread use of ash depositing homecare products have allowed customers to prolong this otherwise short-lived hair shade.
Hair Trends 2021: Maple Brown is Raging in Asia
If you’re a fan of Korean dramas, you will have realised that many actors and actresses are sporting Maple Brown look-alike hair hues in recent months. For example, Lee Dong Wook in his latest drama, Tale of Nine Tailed; and Han So Hee in the blockbuster drama, The World of the Married.
In Seoul – the fashion capital of Asia – the trend towards copper and cinnamon tinted brown hair colours is rising. This is good news because such colours are flattering for most Asian skin tone.
For customers with fair skin tone, go with a slightly rosier version such as the one above to further enhance your complexion.
Hair Trends 2021: Ear Loop Highlights + Money Piece Highlights
“Blackpink in your area.”
It’s no longer news that Blackpink – a Kpop girl group – has become a cultural phenomenon in recent years. Lisa and Jennie, two of the members, have definitely brought back the 90s Ear loop Highlights and Money Piece Highlights trend.
Ear loop Highlights are a version of peekaboo highlights, where only the under-sections around your ears are lightened and dyed.
Whereas, Money Piece Highlights are face-framing fringe highlights that start at the roots and continue to the ends.
The best part about these two hair trends? Since only particular sections of our locks require bleaching, the majority of our tresses won't have to incur the same chemical damage.
Hair Trends 2021: Airy Lob or Bob (a little imperfection doesn’t hurt)
Lob and Bob hairstyles will always be classics and never be out-of-trend. Just that the feel and style will vary according to seasons.
In 2021, the trend is moving towards airy Lob or Bob. It’s moderately texturized without losing the shape, and more effortless-looking. A little frizz and disconnection make it look chic, current and contemporary. (i.e. less “perfect”, neat and sleek)
Hair Trends 2021: A Feminine Version of a Pixie Cut / Short Bob
Who says short haircuts have to be masculine-looking? K-inspired Pixie Cut or Short Bob are now softened with layers for a more feminine touch in 2021, coupled with graduation at the back and sides for greater body and volume.
This refreshing and “age”-reduction haircut contours and frames one’s face nicely – best matched with a cinnamon-tinted brown hair colour.
Hair Trends 2021: Dark Underlights
90’s hair trends are back with a vengeance! Dark Underlights on blonde hair is the updated and inversed version of the 90s chunky blonde highlights on dark hair. When worn with a blunt Bob, this hairstyle will sure to make heads turn.
Dark Underlights involve lowlighting the bottom layer of our mane with natural dark hues while colouring the top section of our mane blonde or with vibrant shades.
Hair Trends 2021: Higher and Tighter Curls?
Scan through the works of hairstylists in Seoul, it’s evident that perm trends in Korea is moving towards tighter curls. And, they are usually wind all the way up into the roots. Think Teddy Bear Curls and Hippie Perm.
This doesn’t bode well for customers living in hot and humid countries like Singapore. As, such perm will most likely result in frizzy, unruly and unmanageable hair.
Instead, go for more natural versions such as Rebonding Perm or Movement Perm. Though daily styling is still recommended, but they definitely require less effort and time to maintain them.
Hair Trends 2021: Revival of Curtain Bangs
Curtain bangs are fringe that are parted, framing your face on each side (much like a curtain does with a window). When matched with C-curls, the look is simply chic and modish. Curtain bangs used to be popular back in the 70s and are now trending, once again.
Note: Daily styling is required to maintain this style back home. Also, it’s not suitable for hair textures that are overly thick, stiff or fine.
Hair Trends 2021: C Curls + S Curls Rebonding
The number of S-Curls and C-Curls Rebonding requests post the Covid-19 lockdown has shot through the roof. It seems like more customers are going for simpler and elegant hairstyles that doesn’t scream excessively for attention. And, S-Curls and C-Curls Rebonding fits the bill perfectly. Our prediction is that this will continue into 2021.
