How to Make Your Hair Less Frizzy? Anti-frizz Hair Tips You Need to Know
“How Can I Make My Hair Less Frizzy?” – We hear you ask. We’ve got your back with this mega guide. Here’s everything you need to know about keeping frizz and unruly hair under control. PS: These anti-frizz hair tips are contributed by Associate Director of Chez Vous Hair Salon, Readen Chia.
Before we dive into the various solutions for frizzy hair, we must first manage our expectations.
If you are looking for a perfect quick fix that’ll ensure that your hair is on point – “permanently” – like those celebrities you see in the media, you will inevitably be disappointed. Let’s face it. These celebrities have a battalion of hairstylists, photographers, and photo editors, working on their hair just for that perfect shot. That, unfortunately, is a privilege many of us do not have .
Secondly, there isn’t a single perfect product, treatment, or service that can miraculously transform your hair from frustrated to 100% frizz-free. Every single of these has their pros and cons, which we will break them down in the article below.
How Do I Stop My Hair from Overly Frizzing in Humidity?
Anti-frizz Hair Tips #1: The Way We Apply Our Conditioner Matters!
5 out of 10 customers are applying conditioner wrongly!
Here’s the surprise: it’s not about how long you leave the conditioner on your hair nor the amount you’ve used, it’s the way you apply it that matters!
Step 0: Shampoo & rinse (duh)
Step 1: Divide and part your hair down the middle .
Step 2: Apply your conditioner on both sides of the hair (avoiding the roots) while its wet.
Step 3: Use your fingers like a comb and massage hair in a strictly downwards stroking motion.
Step 4: Then split the half further smaller sections as you go. The trick is to continuously work on that one section till it’s perfectly smoothed out, slimy and shiny.
Step 5: Once done, comb through hair thrice using a wide or medium tooth comb.
Step 6: Leave the conditioner on for 5 minutes before rinsing the conditioner out.
This method helps penetrate the reparative ingredients into the hair to reduce its porosity and it creates a seal around the cuticles. Doing so will reduce humidity in the air from interacting with our hair. Hence, lessen swelling and humidity-led frizz.
How Do I Control My Flyaways?
Anti-frizz Hair Tips #2: Please Do Not Be Afraid of Leave-in Styling Products
There is this unfounded fear about styling products (and its silicones) causing serious build-up on hair.
Here’s an unpopular opinion: most cases of product build-up we have seen for the past 10 years is because people are not cleansing their hair regularly, or they are spamming – supposedly natural is better – oils on their hair daily for years. Styling products and silicones have regrettably become the victims of fear-mongering. #truth
Leave-in styling products are designed to “hold” the hair together so as to minimize flyaways and enhance your hair pattern. Many of them now have haircare benefits packed into them, to treat your tress, 24/7, too.
Psst… Go for the reputable ones and you will be fine.
Here are 4 Best Anti-frizz Products Depending on Your Hair Types and Styling Preference
Women with Straight or Slightly Wavy Hair Texture + Prefer to Air Dry their Hair
Avoid products that have high styling functions as they might get sticky when hair is not blown dry. Instead, apply Oribe Supershine Moisturising Cream on damp hair before air-drying them. This product has close to zero styling properties, but it helps control frizz, promote smoothness and softness, without all that tackiness.
Women with Curly Hair Texture + Prefer to Air Dry their Hair
For women with curly hair texture, you will need to embrace leave-in products that have higher styling properties to sculpt and hold the curls together. Oribe Curl Gloss for Hydration & Hold fits the bill perfectly. Moreover, it adds incredible shine and moisture to our hair too. The only drawback is that hair might feel slightly “crunchy” when applied excessively.
Women with Straight or Slightly Wavy Hair Texture + Prefer to Blow Dry their Hair
You heard it here first! You do NOT need to have curls or wavy hair to use this God-sent product! Goldwell Kerasilk Enhancing Curl Crème promotes tremendous smoothness and softness, controls frizz, and provides excellent anti-humidity benefits when used with a hairdryer. The best part? It does not create a crunchy effect. In fact, it feels almost weightless!
Women with Curly Hair Texture + Prefer to Blow Dry their Hair
Don’t worry, Oribe Straight Away Smoothing Blowout Cream does not straighten your curls, nor does it weigh your hair down. Instead, it holds and enhances the curls while preventing frizz when blown dry or used with a diffuser. #Surprise! We found this out after numerous tests.
How Can I De-Poof My Hair Completely?
Anti-frizz Hair Tips #3: Rebonding or Thermal Straightening is a Great Option for Women Who Wants 100% Fuss-Free & Straight-looking Hair
Rebonding is an in-salon chemical service that relaxes your hair by breaking the hair bonds, to straighten the hair.
Let us put this out there. There’s absolutely nothing wrong with curly or wavy hair. In fact, we always ask our guests to embrace and learn how to manage them. They’re gorgeous!
That said if any women prefer to have their hair chemically straightened, who are we to judge?
If you’re someone who wants hassle-free hair, Rebonding is a superb option.
However, here are some drawbacks of thermal straightening a.k.a. Rebonding:
Retouching the roots will be needed every 3 months to blend the newly grown hair with the hair ends.
It does strip off colours as heat is involved in the procedure.
It does damage the hair. Thus, we don’t recommend Rebonding hair that has previously been straightened, chemically (i.e. only retouch the roots).
As it does damage the hair, this procedure is not recommended for hair that has been bleached or highlighted.
Going for a reparative or moisturising maintenance hair treatment every month is needed to prolong the smoothening benefits and help prevent breakage.
Lastly, it should not be done on Keratin-treated hair as the hair might break.
For a less damaging alternative, opt for Chez Vous’ Anti-damage Soft Rebonding. However, do note that this new technology is extremely mild and gentle. Hence, it will not be a good option for hair that is extremely coarse or curly.
How to Reduce Frizz & Straighten My Hair Without Severely Damaging It?
Anti-frizz Hair Tips #4: Keratin Treatment is a Great Option for Women Who Wants Healthier & Straighter-looking Hair with Considerably Lesser frizz
Keratin Treatment, sometimes called a Brazilian Blowout, is an in-salon procedure that realigns the bonds while saturating and sealing the hair with proteins – to create healthier-looking hair.
It does straighten the hair demi-permanently, add shine and reduce frizz effectively. The results tend to last around 3 months. As this is a treatment as opposed to a permanent procedure, the newly grown roots will blend in with the keratin-treated hair ends over time when the treatment effect starts to wear off. This helps eliminate the awkward phase of having frizzy roots and straight ends.
That said, like all services, there are pros & cons. Here are some drawbacks of Keratin Treatment:
Post-Keratin Treatment, we will not be able to perm or Rebond the hair. As there is a risk of “frying” the hair.
It does strip off colours as heat is involved in the procedure.
It relaxes the curls slightly even when the treatment wears off.
This treatment is heat-activated. Meaning customers must still blow-dry their hair in a downward motion to “activate” its benefits.
Excessive protein overload can cause hair to be coarse and brittle. Thus, going for a moisturising hair treatment every month is needed to rebalance the protein vs. moisture level of the hair.
Lastly, prescribed home care will be needed to prolong the treatment effect.
How to Reduce Frizz & Unruliness, Without Straightening My Curls Completely?
Anti-frizz Hair Tips #5: Advanced Sugar Hair Lamination is the Best Anti-Frizz Treatment for Women with Naturally Wavy or Curly Hair
Advanced Sugar Hair Lamination is an all-new express frizz-fighting gloss treatment using reparative ingredients such as Sugar actives, Hyaluronic Acid complex, Camu Camu fruit extract, and Bixa Orellana seed extract. This revolutionary treatment improves hair's health and appearance, with soft curl reduction (20% to 60%) for greater manageability.
Unlike other smoothening treatments, Advanced Sugar Hair Lamination can be done immediately after colour, as it does not strip off hair dyes excessively. Also, it does not cause any complications to future perm or Rebonding procedures.
The best part? Advanced Sugar Hair Lamination loosens natural curls temporarily and does not straighten your hair completely. Thus, it will not create stiff or stick-straight-looking hair.
The result? Frizz is reduced by 40% while hair is smooth and healthy-looking – all under 60 minutes.
However, here are some drawbacks of Advanced Sugar Hair Lamination:
It lasts around 6 weeks as opposed to 3 months when compared with Keratin Treatments.
This treatment is heat-activated. Meaning customers must still blow-dry their hair to fully “activate” its benefits.
It relaxes the curls slightly even when the treatment wears off.
Lastly, prescribed home care will be needed to prolong the treatment effect.
Advanced Sugar Hair Lamination is developed by and exclusive to Chez Vous Hair Salon. Starts from $235 and up.
