Many women in the world are now accepting their natural Gray hair, gracefully. It is indeed a beautiful phenomenon, not just aesthetically, but mentally & emotionally as well. After all, Graying is a natural part of life. Hence, there should not be any stigma around silver strands if women choose to embrace them. Here are 5 things you must know before transitioning to Gray hair.

Many online articles recommend women to go for a salt & pepper look – via highlights & bleach – to blend the white roots with the coloured hair ends. In theory, it seems like a great idea. However, this proves to be disastrous for many Asian women who’ve tried it.

Firstly, Asian hair has a higher concentration of dark pigments. Secondly, years of root retouch and box dye to cover those Grays have deposited a huge amount of dark pigments on the hair ends. Thus, removing them will require several rounds of bleaching.

This causes hair to be badly damaged, frizzy and unruly – creating a whole new set of problems & chores. Many Asian customers might end up breaking their hair even before achieving the salt & pepper hair colour.

PS: It usually takes several visits to the salon to achieve this. Thus, this is not a cheap option.

Cutting our hair short is the fastest way to transit to Gray hair. By snipping those coloured ends off, it will most probably take 2 or 3 salon visits to achieve a full-on natural Gray look. The best part? Pixie hairstyle looks great and they are easy to style & maintain.

Whether you opt to go, Gray, naturally or via any other methods, the grow-out phase & transitioning process do take time. It can be daunting at first, but patience is key!

If you only have a few strands of Gray, you may choose to leave it as it is. Do not attempt to highlight and bleach your hair to blend that few strands of Gray with the rest of your hair. As a rule of thumb, anyone with less than 20% Gray, will find it counterproductive when they dye their hair Gray – as part of the transition process.

It can be stressful sometimes to read multiple articles and social media posts that advocate the public to embrace their natural Gray hair. This is especially so when we see those oh-so-gorgeous models with beautiful Gray hair.
