Colouring our hair is a great way to kick-start a positive change in our image. Having coloured more than tens of thousands of clients over the years, here are our top 5 hair tips to care for coloured hair.

HAIR TIPS FOR NEWLY COLOURED HAIR #1: Wait for 48 Hours Before Allowing Your Hair to Touch Water

HAIR TIPS FOR NEWLY COLOURED HAIR #1: Wait for 48 Hours Before Allowing Your Hair to Touch Water

"During most colouring procedures, cuticles are opened for pigments to be deposited and it takes 24 to 48 hours before our cuticles are closed again. By avoiding water (including perspiration), we allow colour pigments to soak deeper into our hair - helping it to last longer in between salon visits. Moreover, it gives our scalp time to "rest" too!

Remember, the less frequent our hair is in contact with water, the longer the colour will last. Because, water swells the hair, opens the cuticles and causes premature fading." Associate Director of Chez Vous Hair Salon, Joyce Wan

HAIR TIPS FOR NEWLY COLOURED HAIR #2: Apply A Layer of Moisturising Conditioner on Dry Hair Before Entering the Shower

HAIR TIPS FOR NEWLY COLOURED HAIR #2: Apply A Layer of Moisturising Conditioner on Dry Hair Before Entering the Shower

"Shampoo and water remove dirt and oil build-up, but they also strip our hair of its natural oils and colour pigments. Applying a layer of conditioner on dry hair before entering the shower can help protect our newly-deposited hair dyes, and reduce friction (hence mechanical damage) caused to our hair during hair washing. A.K.A. Reverse Shampooing. Do follow up with a colour depositing masque after shampoo for best results." Associate Director of Chez Vous Hair Salon, Luis Wee

HAIR TIPS FOR NEWLY COLOURED HAIR #3: Use Prescribed Colour Safe, Depositing or Neutralising Homecare to Reduce the Rate of Fading

HAIR TIPS FOR NEWLY COLOURED HAIR #3: Use Prescribed Colour Safe, Depositing or Neutralising Homecare to Reduce the Rate of Fading

There are generally 3 types of homecare for coloured hair:

Colour Safe Homecare:

  • Mild in nature so as to not over-stripped dyes from the hair
  • Usually have UV Protection benefits and natural oils to promote greater brilliance
  • Best suited for customers who dye their hair with dark colours that are close to their natural shade or guests who undergoes regular root retouch

Colour Neutralising Homecare:

  • Usually contain purple and blue pigments to neutralise brassiness
  • Does NOT turn hair grey, blue or purple, merely reduce the "yellow-ness" of hair colour
  • Best suited for blondes or even customers with neutral brown hair
  • Note: We have to leave it on for 5 to 7 minutes for it to work

Colour Depositing Homecare:

  • Come in a variety of colours
  • Help deposit colour pigments into the hair, saturating or refreshing the colour in the process
  • Best suited for customers who bleached and deposit dyes into the hair that are drastically different from their natural shade (e.g. Blue, Green, Rose Gold, Lavender, Ash Grey, etc.)
  • Note: We have to leave it on for 7 to 10 minutes for it to work

The right prescribed homecare can prolong your hair colour, making your money worth! Consult your stylist today." Associate Director of Chez Vous Hair Salon, Readen Chia

HAIR TIPS FOR NEWLY COLOURED HAIR #4: Spray on Leave-in Heat Protectant to Prevent Premature Fading due to Heat

HAIR TIPS FOR NEWLY COLOURED HAIR #4: Spray on Leave-in Heat Protectant to Prevent Premature Fading due to Heat

"Heat from hot tools opens up the cuticles causing hair colour to fade drastically. It is a must to use a leave-in heat protectant before using any heat-styling tools. We strongly recommend Oribe Invisible Defense Universal Protection Spay. It's probably the best we've ever used." Chief Director of Chez Vous Hair Salon, Serene Tan

HAIR TIPS FOR NEWLY COLOURED HAIR #5: Go for Monthly Reparative In-salon Treatment to Increase Our Hair's Potential to Hold Colour

HAIR TIPS FOR NEWLY COLOURED HAIR #5: Go for Monthly Reparative In-salon Treatment to Increase Our Hair's Potential to Hold Colour

"Damaged hair is higher in porosity and its cuticles (especially for bleached hair) are pretty much peeled off - resulting in lower ability to hold colour pigments in. In-salon reparative hair treatments like Chez Vous' exclusive Sugar Hair Lamination has the ability to provide cuticle protection and strengthen the hair from within - increasing its potential to hold colour in for a longer period of time. It's worth investing in the correct monthly hair treatments to better prep your hair when it comes to colour-locking ability." Director of Chez Vous Hair Salon, Victor Liu
