TECHNIQUE: SPLIT-DYED HAIR TREND

Could the days of ombre and balayage be over? Nope, we don't think so, even with the latest hair trend - Split-dyed hair. This new hair trend (aka #SplitHair) has been flooding our Instagram feeds and has the potential to be the new "It" colour for 2016.

It requires you to dye half your hair one colour, and half another. That said when it is not blended or designed correctly, it can look like Cruella de Vil from 101 Dalmatians; which in our view is not exactly a compliment. Unless you don't mind having some side-eye while walking down the street.

To avoid extreme contrast, always choose an experienced stylist who can help insert in "slices" of highlights and lowlights in varying proportions to balance up the look.

This new trend is fun, unique and surprisingly beautiful (when done right). If you have the personality and courage, try it! You'll be surprised by how exciting and fresh this look can be.

Melissa, an online personality, and ex-entrepreneur was one of the first few models we invited for our 20th Anniversary 20 Lookbook Challenge; simply because of her daring and positive attitude towards change. Her brief was simple - anything that suits her larger-than-life personality!

She's indeed every hairdresser's dream model, isn't she?

While planning for her makeover, Associate Salon Director, Shawn Chia chose a half-and-half hair dye look for Melissa. As, he felt that it's time for her to have a "statement piece" looking hairstyle that is uniquely hers (at least for a time period). This #splithair look also better reflects her fun, girlish, outspoken and outgoing characteristics.

First there was neon armpit hair; then there was vibrant eyebrows and rainbow looking hair colours. Now, will half-and-half dye be the peak of 2015/16 colorful coif trend. We guess the beauty and fashion world has become more vibrant these few years.

Embrace the punkish side of you. Be bold and you too can rock this look. Try an extreme hair colour at least once in your life. You might not like it, but at least you have tried it. It's reversible anyway.
